Everyone knows that educators are talented people- but often the day to day life of school doesn't give them the chance to show off some of their other amazing talents.
Check out some of these great ways to support Philly educators while buying gifts for the holidays this winter!

Tested Out Poetry Books
Jesse Gottschalk, K-8 Drama Teacher
Description: After years as a 4th grade teacher and testing proctor, Jesse Gottschalk experienced something nearly every student and educator in the school district has gone through: he was sick to death of standardized testing. And so he decided to rebel in the most passive-aggressive way possible: while his students were taking their tests, he started scribbling angry poems on their extra scratch paper. Together with artist Anna Fox Ryan, Gottschalk turned these poems into a book of anti-testing poetry: Tested Out: Poems Against High-Stakes Testing and Standardized Children. His work has been featured in the Philly Inquirer, and is available for purchase in print and ebook formats.

Artist Missla.ra Jewelry Shop
Lara F., Early Literacy Teacher & Early Education Art Teacher
Description: Artist Missla.ra is a Philly educator by day, and independent artist & jewelry designer/creator by night. She is self taught. A single mother coming from very little, she started making jewelry on the side by taking apart old and donated jewelry, and making something new out of it. Most of her pieces now incorporate both new and found or recycled parts (known as ‘upcycled jewelry’). She also uses natural stones and healing crystals in much of her work, as she is very connected to the process and work of natural healing. Each piece is one of a kind, and made with much intention and love. Custom orders are welcome.
